Work Life

The Coast Guard recognizes that Work-Life balance is critical to individual and organizational success. Work-Life Programs provide resources for the entire Coast Guard family. The mission of Work-Life is to provide timely work-life guidance and information to Coast Guard commands, employees, and family members to strike a reasonable balance between the needs of the Coast Guard and the needs of our members and their families. Service delivery of Work-Life Programs is accomplished by the following Work-Life Staff assigned to Health, Safety, and Work-Life Regional Practices (HSWL RP) Coast Guard wide:

  • The Employee Assistance Program Coordinator (EAPC) The Employee Assistance Program Coordinator (EAPC) serves as a point of contact for all employee assistance issues – liaisons with the Employee Assistance Program contractor (Military OneSource). Manages responses and provides suicide prevention awareness and services to those impacted by critical/traumatic incidents including those impacted by workplace violence incidents.

  • The Family Advocacy Specialist (FAS) serves to help reduce and prevent family violence within the Coast Guard by promoting healthy family life via relevant information, resources, and referrals.

​

  • The Family Resource Specialist (FRS) provides assistance with special needs program enrollment for dependents, resources, and referrals. They also provide information and referral services to schools and other dependent care services (such as child and elder care). Special needs enrollment ensures that you are stationed in areas to which educational or medical special needs care can be met. Family resources can also be found HERE.

  • The Personal Financial Manager (PFM) provides one-on-one financial counseling, education and training, referrals, and other financial resource information. They also certify, support and track Command Financial Specialists which are assigned to Coast Guard units.

  • The Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) ensures appropriate care is provided to victims of sexual assault from the initial report through final disposition and resolution. They also coordinate all training, prevention and response efforts in assigned areas of responsibility.

  • The Victim Advocate Program Specialist (VAPS) provides a wide range of essential support and advocacy services, training and education, response, reporting and follow up for sexual assault matters. They serve as the primary initial point of contact for victims and work closely with the SARC to ensure comprehensive care for victims throughout the victim’s recovery process.

  • The Transition Relocation Manager (TRM) facilitate access to a full range of services, including relocation assistance, transition assistance, spouse employment assistance, and sponsorship.

This free support is confidential. Services are not reported and will not affect your or your spouse’s career or security clearance. That means you can receive counseling without anyone’s knowledge, including:

ï‚· - Your spouse or partner
ï‚· - Friends or family, including your parents (if you’re 18 or older)
ï‚· - Other agencies


There are only a few exceptions. Counselors are required by law to report illegal activities or situations where there could be danger to you or to others. This includes suspected domestic violence, child or elder abuse or neglect.
